Conflict has been pointed out as the main factor that has hindered the development of the education sector in the West Nile Region.

The Ayivu county Member of Parliament Bernard Atiku who is also a member of the West Nile Foundation says that a number of issues have failed the education sector in the region but key among them is the unending conflicts which characterized the region in the 70’s and 80’s.

He revealed this as he was joined by leaders of the West Nile Education Trust Fund an initiative of the West Nile Foundation to launch their second fundraising dinner which is due to take place on Friday June 28th at the Metropole Golf Course Hotel Kampala where the First Lady and Education Minister Janet Museveni is expected as the Chief Guest.

Atiku says the Trust targets to sponsor over 35 students from the West Nile districts in science courses in the next five years at a cost of shillings 4.7 billion.

Currently 10 students, 8 male and 2 female are being sponsored by the West Nile Education Trust Fund in various universities in Uganda.
