The Anti-Corruption Court has released three central bank employees on bail.

They are Francis Kakeeto, the Assistant Currency Director Bank of Uganda Mbale Branch, Fred Vito Wanyama, the Verification Officer and the Currency Director, Charles Malinga Akol.

The trio was remanded last week shortly after being charged with abuse of office and Corruption.

The Anti-Corruption court, Grade one Magistrate Abert Asiimwe released the trio on bond this morning basing on their positions in the bank.

He directed Kakeeto to deposit Shillings 30 million in cash, his passport and land title with the court.

He also directed his sureties to execute none cash bond of Shillings 100 million.

Asiimwe also directed Fred Vito Wanyama to deposit Shillings 20 million and passport with the court.  The magistrate also directed Wanyama’s sureties to execute a non-cash bond of Shillings 100 million.

The Currency Director, Charles Malinga Akol, on the other hand, will pay Shillings 40 million in cash while his sureties will each execute none cash bond of Shillings 200million. Just like Kakeeto, the court also directed Malinga to surrender his passport and land title in the names of his wife, Joyce Nafuna Akol to court.

He cautioned the suspects not to interfere with investigations in the cases against them. In their bail application through their lawyers, Samuel Oonyu, Stephen Mungoma and Joseph Kyazze, the suspect listed several grounds including the fact that they have served BoU diligently for more than 15 years.

They also argued that the offences against them are bailable, adding that it’s also their constitutional right to apply for bail. The suspects also argued that they have in custody for close to two weeks.

The suspects were arrested by the Unit before being handed to the Director of Criminal Investigations, Grace Akullo for investigations. The suspects will return to Court on August, 2nd, 2019.
