The Bishop Chairman Uganda Episcopal Conference Rt. Rev. Dr. Anthony Zziwa has appealed to Ugandans against being complacent with the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Addressing the Press at the Prime Ministers offices in Kampala Bishop Zziwa said the community is filled with all sorts of myths and talks, some saying COVID-19 is not a disease for the Africans while others say it’s not in Uganda which talks he said, put the lives of Ugandans at risk.

This comes as the country has now registered 97 coronavirus cases the latest being two cases from the community while six are truck drivers who were tested from 2,061 samples by the Ministry of Health.

The World Health Organization has on a number of occasions warned that COVID-19 will be around for a long time and observance of all the Health Emergency Standards among them social distancing, hand washing, wearing masks and exercising health etiquettes while sneezing or coughing.

The WHO’s Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, says while countries were quick to put in place strict preventive measures to forestall the spread of the virus like nationwide lockdowns that have become common in Africa, citizens around the world are bored and want life to go back to normal even when it meant risking their lives.

This according to the WHO might cause a serious occurrence of the disease within the communities which will be very difficult to control.
