The Catholic Church has donated Five tons of maize flour and Five tons of beans to the Covid-19 national task force to aid the efforts of food distribution in the country.

The aid has been handed over to the Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda at their offices in Kampala by the Bishop Chairman Uganda Episcopal Conference Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Anthony Zziwa along with the Secretary General Msgr. John Baptist Kauta and Mr. Geravas Ndyanabo the head of laity in Uganda.

Bishop Zziwa says the Catholic has been at the forefront of helping the Ugandan community during this trying moment, earlier on Centenary Bank donated 200 million shillings but also the 19 catholic dioceses have gone ahead to start distributing maize flour and beans because of the dare need for food by the public.

He also pledged prayers to the country and the world at large for the families affected and infected by COVID-19 and the souls of the deceased to rest in peace.

Dr. Ruganda hailed the Catholic Church for this gesture and not only to the National task team but it has gone an extra mile to distribute food to people in the different dioceses.

So far the COVID-19 National task force has received 21 billion shs, 7 billion shs in cash, 4 billion in pledges, 50 motor vehicles valued at 5 billion shs while the rest are tangible items in form of health equipment s and food stuffs like posho, beans, rice, bananas among other valued at 5 billion shillings.

The national task team headed by Dr. Rugunda is looking at raising over 170 billion shs that will facilitate buying of testing kits and personal protective equipments PPEs which are still a big challenges according to the ministry of health officials.
