The government led by the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja are set  to prioritize calls for tripling renewable energy output by all parties in the coming 28th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change ( UNFCCC) conference of parties ( COP28) starting on 30th November to 12th December 2023 in United Arab Emirates capital Dubai.

This has been disclosed by the minister for water and Environment Sam Cheptoris during a press briefing at the Uganda media centre disclosing that other priorities that include  a call for a comprehensive transformation of climate finance instead of piecemeal reform, donors should double adaptation finance by 2025 in order for the world’s most vulnerable nations to withstand the impact of climate change and also donor country governments to honor their commitment to close up the 100bn dollar pledge this year.

He also adds that in COP27 they created a loss and damage funding arrangements and that fund is to be approved in this year’s session.

Minister Cheptoris notes that climatic change has left Uganda with significant and progressively perpetual losses and damage that also include prolonged drought, flooding in west, central and Eastern region, cities and urban areas, landslides in Elgon and other highland regions thus a call for the protection of the environment and climate at large.

Over 190 countries are set to participate in this year’s COP28 with other delegations in Uganda that include leaders, minister’s negotiators among others.
