The Ministry of Health has denied rumours of a new Covid-19 variant spreading in Uganda.

This follows news of two new variants which are an offshoot of omicron circulating in different countries like the US causing a surge in Covid-19 cases.

The Director of public health at the ministry of health Dr. Daniel Kyabayinze says the rumors of a new Covid-19 variant are unfounded and baseless.

Dr. Kyabayinze has urged the public to rely on verified information and not to spread unverified rumors and to remain vigilant and adhere to the Covid-19 prevention guidelines.

Commenting on the report that the government is to destroy over 5.6 million doses of Covid-19 expired vaccines valued at 28.1 billion shillings, Dr. Kyabayinze stated that declining demand by the public to get vaccinated and false information about the vaccines as the main contributors to the issue.
