Uganda’s Vice President Jessica Alupo has called for a collaborative effort among African countries to find solutions for the challenges affecting the South-South and Triangular Cooperation- SSTRC.

This was while opening the Second Africa High Level Forum of SSTRC for Sustainable Development 2023 at Speke Resort Munyonyo on Tuesday hosted by the National Planning Authority together with the African Peer Review Mechanism –APRM.

SSTRC can be defined as collaboration between two or more developing countries, often supported by traditional partners, guided by the principles of solidarity and non-conditionality, aimed at implementing inclusive and distributive development models that are driven by demand.

Alupo now says that the solutions that should be considered include defining a strategy for cooperation among SSTRC states, developing a special trade agreement for the cooperation framework, maintaining and working towards security among member countries and also developing financial modalities for member countries.

She however hails the SSTRC for directly and indirectly helping Uganda to fight poverty and improve household income through the FAO China South-South Cooperation Programme Trust Fund which has facilitated agricultural productivity like rice and milk production as well as animal rearing.

The high level forum is running from 17th to 19th of January 2023, under the theme; Building national capacities for South-South and Triangular-Cooperation ecosystems in Africa and forging horizontal partnerships for sustainable and resilient societies.
