The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) has urged Parents and students to embrace the Continuous Assessment (CA) program for comprehensive and cumulative recording of learner’s achievement during the teaching and learning process.

The New curriculum aims at meeting the learners’ needs by equipping them with practical skills to meet the demands in the labor market.

Unlike the old curriculum, which relied solely on the final Senior Four and Six examinations, the new O’Level curriculum was created to include classroom-based assessment throughout the four-year cycle, which will account for 20 percent of the final national examinations.

While addressing journalists at Uganda Media Center in Kampala on Tuesday, Peter Wakabi the Commissioner at UNEB who represented the board Executive Director said that all learners new lower secondary school curriculum in both government and private schools will be required to have a computer-generated Learner Identification Number – LIN on their first registration on the system to help track their performance even if they change schools.

Wakabi adds that UNEB has patterned with National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to register all students from Senior One to three starting with this academic year 2023 and the exercise will be on January 31st.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of NIRA Rosemary Kisembo has disclosed that the process is free of charge and that they don’t expect incidents of parents or students being asked for money hence encouraging the public to report those charging them.
