Uganda Joint Christian Council-UJCC has launched a period of Peace that is to take three years rotating on a yearly basis in each of the Christian faith.

The Period of Peace was launched at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine Namugongo with the Catholic Church taking the lead starting February 2020 to February 2021 and will be followed by the Anglican Church and lastly the Orthodox Church.

The Chairman of Lay apostolate who is also the Bishop of Kasana Luweero diocese Rt. Rev. Paul Ssemogerere who represented the Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga led the Mass and the main preacher was Fr. Matia Kule a Franciscan Missionary Priest from Rwanda who said the world has failed to have peace because of ill intentions, selfishness, lack of love of God by humanity that has left suffering, trauma and wounds not only to children but also to adults.

This breads violence in the process failing love and peace which each person on earth cherishes but his bad practices stop peace.

The Executive Secretary of UJCC Fr. Constantine Mbonabingi said leadership in this country at all levels must look at peace as the fundamental pillar to development of Uganda.

Bishop Yona Mwesigwa Katonene the retired Bishop of West Ankole in the Anglican Church and Bishop Silvestos Kisitu of Gulu from the Orthodox Church represented their churches.

Symbols of peace were unveiled the three doves representing the holy trinity, candles meaning light brings peace.

President Yoweri Museveni represented by the Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuuzi emphasized security as the driving pillar to peace and prosperity however his has fallen short because of poor mindedness of most African leaders pushing for sectarianism leading to wars and aggression killing people and countries.

He says the young generation must spearhead peace through patriotism among other models in Uganda and Africa in whole.

Slightly from the President’s speech Kafuuzi asked the Christian leaders to pray for peace as the country heads for general elections.

The Archbishop of Kampala in his written speech called on Ugandans to learn from the past and build a peaceful country, good for all to live, invest, build and cherished.
