The parliamentary Committee on Statutory and State Enterprises-COSASE has established that the newly appointed Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Bamuturaki had no qualifications for the job.

This comes after the committee had just found out using the auditor general’s report for financial 2021/22 that airlines made a loss of 160bn shillings due to the exorbitant salary structures for the CEO being paid 87 million shillings monthly.

The committee also established that the CEO was appointed to the job by the directive of the president which stopped the board from conducting the proper procedure of searching for a person suiting the position.

On Wednesday, Bamuturaki reappeared before the committee chaired by the Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi who noted that a person to be employed as a CEO of Uganda Airlines has to be having a bachelor’s degree in any field and post-graduate training which the lady doesn’t have.

After Ssenyonyi found out that Bamuturaki only has a bachelor’s degree in Social work, he called for more examination of other managers’ qualifications in the airline.

The Uganda Airlines Company Secretary Bisereko Kyomuhendo when asked to clarify the matter, he noted that the issue can only be answered by the board since it’s the only one with the mandate to employ top management.
