The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has tasked the Makerere University management to always give expert opinions on the government projects in support to attain the national development agenda.

While meeting the Makerere University management led by the vice chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe at Parliament, Tayebwa says that Makerere University is badly needed to advise on projects like Parish Development Model, the current economic crisis, and natural calamities for the country to move in a proper direction.

He noted that Makerere University professors should utilize media to communicate their expert opinions other than the media getting people who are underqualified to give opinions.

Tayebwa has also tasked Makerere University to nurture other public universities to ensure that every Ugandan benefits from their knowledge since they are now funded by the government to do research.

The Vice Chancellor of Makerere University Prof Barnabas Nawangwe noted that the government should use Makerere for research since they have a number of students who can help in coming up with the findings within a short period of time thus also reviewing the 4,500 shillings allowance fee per day for government students.
