The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has tripled the number of Enumerators for the ongoing census exercise specifically in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.

Dr. Albert Byamugisha, the Chairperson Board of Directors at UBOS says that the current number of enumerators is 6,000 from the 2,000 enumerators that earlier had been deployed in greater Kampala.

The Sixth population census in the country started last Friday on 10th May 2024 and it will end on Sunday 19th May 2024.

The first day of the census was marred with delays especially in Greater Kampala Areas of Wakiso, Mukono and Kampala where some Enumerators had problems in logging into the Tabs used in the exercise.

Dr. Byamugisha while addressing the Journalists at Police headquarters in Naguru on Monday noted that the delays were mostly due to failure by almost 20,000 tabs to operate among the 110,000 machines that were deployed.

He also adds that they established that Enumerators who failed to log into the tabs were found to have been wrongly recruited and the system couldn’t recognize them.

More than 120,000 enumerators will be recruited.
