The Democratic Party (DP) has advised the Government not to take the sanctions slapped on the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among for granted.

Last week the UK Government announced some corruption related sanctions on some Ugandan officials who included the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, and two former ministers; Mary Goretti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu, which consists of travel bans and asset freezes.

While addressing the media at the DP headquarters in Kampala, the acting Party Spokesperson, Ismail Kiirya revealed that these sanctions come at the right time to help Ugandans revisit the case of the iron sheet saga which was not concluded well.

He says the Government should not take these sanctions lightly because they affect the global image of the country.

Meanwhile, Kiirya further appealed to the IGG Beti Kamya to critically look into this matter without fear or favour as she was directed by the President to make thorough investigations into the Speaker’s reported properties abroad.
