UBC is to receive UGX 2 Billion for presidential campaign time.

The Uganda Broadcasting Cooperation-UBC is to receive UGX 3bn airtime for presidential candidates.

The Deputy Managing Director of UBC Maurice Mugisha revealed this while interfacing with the parliamentary Budgets committee which was assigned the duty of scrutinizing the 6.1 trillion supplementary budget which was tabled by government a week ago.

3bn is part of the supplementary which UBC request to provide equal coverage to all presidential candidates in yet to start campaigns.

Mugisha informed the committee by defending the request that failure to provide the needed money will risk UBC being taken to court like in 2016 were Rt Col Dr Kizza Bezigye challenged the station for failing to provide him space to campaign.

However the mps informed him that parliament has already provided the electoral commission with publicity and facilitation of candidates.

Mugisha informed them that the Electoral commission is not in any way concerned about the coverage of presidential candidates as this is not their mandate.
