Joint Medical Stores has finalized all the necessary requirements for the production of Oxygen for medical care and other use.

The One million US Dollars a medical oxygen plant in Nsambya has a capacity to manufacture up to 150 cylinders per hour.

The project was mooted in October 2021 following a huddle experienced especially during the second wave of the Covid-19 caused by the Delter variant that claimed over 1000 lives and most of them were in need of Oxygen for survival.

This was revealed by the Executive Director Joint Medical Stores Dr Bildard Baguma at the donation of 25 million shillings towards the church house and 10 million shillings in form of medical supplies to support the Uganda Martyrs day celebrations at the Anglican Shrine Nakiyanja Namugongo.

The donation in cheque was handed over to the Archbishop Church of Uganda Dr. Steven Kazimba Mugalu by the Executive Director Joint Medical Stores Dr. Bildard Baguma at their offices in Nsambya Kampala today.

Archbishop Kazimba and his team first inspected the Oxygen plant facility (Oxylife) which is expected to start its production in a week’s time and they were amazed with the investment calling on JMS to help in controlling the cost for Oxygen on the Market and for the health facilities.

According to the technical team of JMS, “One of the issues realised during the Covid-19 pandemic is that the supply of oxygen was below the demand which cost lives of many Ugandans hence the demand to address the challenge.

The project comes at a time when different hospitals and other health entities are devising means to produce or stock up oxygen to guard against the 2021 Covid-19 health crisis.

The Executive Director Joint Medical Stores Dr Bildard Baguma said they always extend support to both the Catholic and Anglican Church during the Martyrs day celebration since the organization for such a day requires huge expenses both in kind and cash to maintain the multitude of pilgrims who come for prayers on June 3rd Uganda Martyrs Day Celebrations.
