The director of Kawempe referral hospital Nekemiah Katusiime has attributed the failure to have a CT scan at the hospital due to the unstable power in the area.

The auditor general in his report for the last financial year noted the CT scan at the hospital is not being utilized.

The auditor general noted that the CT scan was in operation in the 1st and 2nd quarter of the financial year and it remained unutilized for the 3rd and 4th quarters for the financial year ended June 2021.

Nekemiah informed mps that this was due to lack of uninterrupted power supply to facilitate the smooth operation of the equipment but says that management now plans to buy the UPS in July this year.

The Tororo woman Member of Parliament Sarah Opendi wondered whether this machine is not important for the hospital and they do not need this machine.

The principal administrator of the hospital Grace Lubaale informed the committee that they need the equipment but it will be reckless for them to use equipment of 300m shillings and be destroyed by power.

The director of the hospital Nekemiah informed the mps that once in a while they use the machine but after switching on the generator because they cannot rely on the unstable power in the area.

The vice chairperson of the committee Asuman Basalirwa advised the hospital to consult the solicitor general and attorney general on whether they cannot sue UMEME for damages caused on their equipment.
