Over a million pilgrims are expected for this year’s June 3rd Uganda Martyrs day celebrations at the Catholic Shrine Namugongo.

 

Rev.Fr. Joseph Muwonge one of the organizers of the 2022 Martyrs Day Cerebrations has informed Radio Sapientia from Namugongo that only two days to June 3rd a total of over 30,000 pilgrims have arrived at the site while many more foot pilgrims are on their way to Namugongo.

 

Fr. Muwonge adds that people have taken two years without visiting the Shrine to pray so everyone is in need of reaching Namugongo that is why the numbers are such high even before the de-day.

 

Meanwhile the organizing Committee has released the June 1st program when Pilgrims from Tanzania and well-wishers converge to pray for the cause of beatification of the former president of Tanzania Mwalimu   Julius Nyerere.

 

Emmanuel Katumba the chairman Organizing Committee says mass is expected to start at 9.30am with a procession led by the Archbishop of Kampala Arch Diocese His Grace Paul Ssemogerere and President Yoweri Museveni as the chief guest.

 

A total of 2500 foot pilgrims from Fort Portal Catholic Diocese the animating diocese for the 2022 Martyrs’ day celebrations at the Catholic Shrine Namugongo have arrived at Namugongo put first settled at St. Peter’s Primary School Namugongo before they reach the Martyrs site on June 2nd 2022. The theme for this year’s Martyrs day is; “Baptised and Sent to Witness Christ with Hope and Love”.
