The Anglican Church is to use UGX 800 million for the 2022 Martyrs day celebrations.

 

Rt. Rev Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa the cluster Leader, Greater Ankole Diocese while addressing journalists at Namugongo protestant site said that they had planned for UGX 600 million but due to escalating prices of essential commodities together with the effects of COVID-19 there is a need for additional UGX of 200 million for better preparations.

 

Rev. Mwesigwa adds that they are expecting to receive over 20,000 pilgrims this year and the funds are needed to Carter for water , security, health, liturgy among others

 

He has disclosed that on  3rd June they expect to start the service at 9:00am led by the diocese of Ankole under the Theme; “Hope Beyond Affiliation”, all pilgrims are advised to follow COVID-19 and security guidelines.

 

Meanwhile Rev. Mwesigwa had revealed that due to the unfortunate incident yesterday when a pilgrim died shortly on arrival at Nakiyanja, they have decided to put up a free health camp to provide medical checkup for pilgrims for disease such as COVID-19, blood pressure, diabetes among others.

 

Due to the ongoing construction pilgrims will not be in position to draw water from the well where martyrs were killed from and called for calm, Rev. Mwesigwa said.
