Traders in Kampala under their umbrella body Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) are dissatisfied over governments failure to implement it’s recommendations that would help to solve the escalating commodity prices.

Speaking to the press in Kampala Musoke Thadeus Nagenda the acting chairperson of KACITA noted that they advised government to consider a reduction on allowances extended to parliamentarians and cabinet, reduce on fuel taxes to enable those in business to reduce it’s price, investing more in agricultural sector among others but none of their recommendations was implemented.

He now calls upon government to temporarily allow importation of essential goods from cheap sources and those don’t directly compete with locally manufactured ones through a reduced tax measure system.

ISSA Ssekitto the Kacita spokesperson advised government to engage the manufacturer to see how they can reduce on taxes on some commodities for Ugandans to get relief but also questioned the relevance of technical persons in the ministry of finance who are supposed to advise the president over such matters.
