Relatives of the 32 National Unity Platforms -NUP supporters battling charges of illegal possession of explosive devices have broken into tears after the General Court Martial declined to grant their people bail.

On Tuesday, the Court Martial Chairman, Brig. Gen. Robert Freeman Mugabe raised four grounds of declining to grant bail to the accused which include; the offense being of a serious nature, the sureties weren’t substantial, the accused have no substantial places of aboard and that they are likely to interfere with the investigations once released.

He has however ordered for an expeditious hearing.

The ruling has come as a shock to the relatives of the accused who had belief that they had tendered in the right documents to help their people to be granted temporary freedom.

Prosecution accuses Rashid Ssegujja and 31 others of being found in illegal possession of 13 explosive devices, which are ordinarily the monopoly of the defense forces.

According to the prosecution, the suspects committed the offenses between November 2020 and May 2021 in Jinja, Mbale, Kireka, Nakulabye, Kawempe, Nateete and Kampala Central.
