Teacher held over attempted defilement of 15-year-old student

Police are in detention of a 40-years-old school teacher identified as John Ssenfuma on allegations of attempting to defile his 15-year-old student.

The suspect who is a resident in Mukono district teaches at a certain school in Mityana where the victim is also schooling

According to the police, Ssenfuma was arrested after a complaint lodged by a 26-years-old lady only identified as Sheilah, a resident of Kyebando Erisa Zone in Kawempe Division, Kampala District, who is the guardian of the 15-year-old student.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson says that Sheilah reported that the family became aware of Ssemfuma’s communication with the juvenile through WhatsApp, prompting his invitation to their premises where he managed to reach and apprehended upon arrival on 13^th of January, 2024.

However, an examination by a Police surgeon confirmed the well-being of the victim, as the intended activity did not transpire but the case file has been submitted to the office of the Resident State Attorney, and the Kanyanya Police has received guidance on the next steps as Owoyesigyire explains.

He emphasizes that the file is pending resubmission for sanctioning and the suspect will face charges as determined by the prosecution.
