Speaker Among returns iron sheets to OPM

The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has bought about 500 iron sheets and compensated those she took to her district.

She disclosed this during the parliamentary plenary on Wednesday acknowledging that she has already instructed her personal assistant to return the iron sheets to the Office of the Prime Minister so that they can be offered to those meant to receive them.

Among, is one of the government officials who benefited from the iron sheets which were meant for underprivileged people in Karamoja.

Others include, Rebecca Kadaga, Jacob Oboth Oboth, Hamson Obua, Amos Lugolobi, Matia Kasaija, Mary Goretti Kitutu and many more.

On Monday, the Director of Public Prosecution –DPP Jane Francis Abodo directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to expeditiously investigate the Minister implicated in the mismanagement of iron sheets that were meant to benefit the impoverished people in Karamoja.

Among says she had received the iron sheets unknowingly and donated them to different schools in Bukedea district but later she found it prudent to return the exact number she received from the OPM.

In response, the opposition chief whip John Baptist Nambeshe who represented the leader of opposition in Wednesday’s plenary sitting applauded the speaker for the gesture and asked other ministers who benefited from the same iron sheets to return them.
