The opposition in parliament has decided to boycott President Yoweri Museveni’s address to Parliament on Thursday at Kololo Ceremonial grounds.

Museveni is expected to address the 11th Parliament on issues of national importance at 2pm.

The Acting Leader of Opposition who is also the Busiro East Member of Parliament, Medard Lubega Ssegona says their decision is grounded on the alleged detention of political opponents.

Sseggona says they can’t participate in an address by Museveni who has continuously abused human rights by detaining innocent political prisoners since 2021 general elections both in gazetted and non-gazetted places.

He says that the same government has failed to fight corruption including the cabinet ministers in spite of the advice from different stakeholders.

Opposition also says that they are tired of Museveni’s security which humiliates MPs whenever there are such state functions.

The opposition constitutes about 109 legislators out of the 529 lawmakers in the eleventh parliament while the ruling National resistance Movement –NRM party has about 335 lawmakers while the other portion are independents and ex-officials.
