The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has directed the re-tabling of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act.

The Act was nullified by the Constitutional Court last week on grounds of no quorum at the time of passing it by the 9th Parliament.

The Speaker’s directive followed a matter of national concern that was raised by the Rubaga South MP, Aloysius Mukasa.

Mukasa said that by nullifying the law, this puts the young generation in harm’s way by consuming drugs and other dangerous substances freely, putting the country at risk of the likely increase in crime rates.

It’s from this that the Speaker Among asked Aruu County MP, Christopher Komakech to retable the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Bill next week for reconsideration by Parliament.
