President Yoweri Museveni who is also the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces has blamed the killing of State Minister for Labour, Rt Col. Charles Engola on some internal challenges within the army.

Engola was murdered in cold blood by his bodyguard Wilson Sabiiti on 2nd May 2023 at his home at Kyanja, Nakawa Division in Kampala before the guard also took his own life by shooting.

While addressing mourners at a state funeral at the Kololo ceremonial grounds, Museveni said it’s so shameful that somebody within the army deployed to guard a useful cadre ended up killing him.

He says that the murder of Col. Engola by his bodyguard Private Wilson Sabiiti is a situation that cannot be covered up by the army but must accept full responsibility and sort out their internal challenges.

Retired Col. Charles Engola died at the age of 65 years and had served in different capacities such as; Oyam District Chairperson, State Minister for Defense, and State Minister of Labour and as well as the Oyam North MP, dockets he held at the time of his death.

The state funeral at Kololo was attended by the First Lady Janet Museveni, several cabinet ministers and officials from neighbouring countries like Kenya.
