The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has asked the Church to continuously pray for the 11th Parliament and for the good health of its members.

Among who was deeply saddened while speaking at the funeral service to honour the fallen Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament, Cecilia Ogwal at All Saints Cathedral today said that the 11th Parliament has lost four sitting MPs in a space of two and a half years and asked for forgiveness from God in case they have wronged.

It should be recalled that in March 2022 the 11th Parliament lost its first Speaker Jacob Oulanyah and in December of the same year, Serere County MP, Patrick Okabe died in a road accident and May 2023, the State Minister for Labour and Oyam North MP, Charles Engola was killed by his bodyguard Wilson Sabiiti with the latest being Cecilia Ogwal who passed on last Thursday in India at the age of 77 years.

Meanwhile, the Speaker applauded the late Ogwal for being and an advocate for women’s rights, an ambassador for the health sector, a nationalist, patriot and a prayer warrior.

Among also praised Ogwal for holding family values saying that she was so vocal and supportive during the debate on the Anti-Homosexuality Bill that banned same-sex relations in Uganda.

After the service, Ogwal’s body departed for Adok Sub-County in Dokolo district where a vigil will be held at the deceased’s home ahead of a special district council sitting to be held at Dokolo district headquarters on Wednesday January 24th 2024.

It was also revealed that upon the arrival, the body will spend nights in all three of her homes in Adok in Dokolo district, Te-obia in Lira City and Alito Sub-County in Kole district, which will be her final resting place.

The legislator is scheduled to be buried on Saturday, January 27th, 2023 after being accorded an official burial by President Yoweri Museveni in recognition of her great service to the country.
