A total of 762 places and six companies have been cleared by police to display fireworks under strict guidelines at the New Year celebrations across the country.

Addressing the media in Naguru, the Police Spokesperson Emilliano Kayima said that District Police Commanders DPCs have been authorized to monitor, stop and penalize any person who will not adhere to guidelines.

Among the companies cleared to display fire works include, Tomil Fireworks Limited, Sky Flames Uganda Ltd, Quality Lighting Ltd, Extremes Events, Goshen Africa Events and Light Africa.

Kayima further explains that all fireworks materials will be escorted by police Counter Terrorism Teams and the leftovers will be handed over to the teams for safe custody.

However, Kayima re-affirms that burning car tyers in the middle of the roads or in residential places is prohibited and urged the public to be vigilant as people are ushered in to the New Year 2019.
