A total of 143,642 vulnerable Ugandans, approximately 38 percent affected by the lockdown have received their Covid-19 cash relief, according to government.

 

Last week government launched the disbursement of Covid-19 cash relief of Shs102,425 to each of the 501,107 across Kampala Metropolitan areas and 11 Cities together with 30 Municipalities expected to benefit in the programme.

 

The Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development Betty Amongi says that cash amounting to over 14.71billion shillings has been paid to the beneficiaries yet a total of 377,021 (75.23%) names been submitted by today morning.

 

The Minister says that among the  categories of beneficiaries that have the worst submission processes on the data system are the Traffic guides, Touts, Vehicle loaders, Special hire drivers and Bouncers yet topping list of uploaded data are bodaboda riders, salon or massage parlour workers, private school teachers, food vendors and slum or ghetto residents.

 

Among the areas that have poorly uploaded their data are Mityana Municipality, Kawempe division, Makindye division, Nansana Municipality, Nakawa division and Koboko Municipality.

 

Meanwhile, the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development is still under negotiations with the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja for the extension of the payment deadline according to Hon. Betty Amongi.
