The Government has indicated a ten percent gradual drop of Covid-19 infection cases since the inception of the second level of lockdown in the country.

Addressing the journalists at the Media Center in Kampala, the Minister for Information, Communication Technology and National Guidance Dr. Chris Baryomunsi said that the cabinet was updated by the Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng yesterday that before the current lockdown, the positivity rate was at 18 percent but dropped to 10%.

According to Baryomunsi, by July 11th the country had registered over 87,700 cases with 61,304 recoveries and 2,129 deaths which is approximately 2.4 percent of those who succumbed to Covid-19 since the commencement of the 42 days lockdown.

The Minister further says that these figures are the signs of peoples observances of Covid-19 measures and the impact of the lockdown though there is still an effort of having the positivity rate to drop to below 5%.

Meanwhile, Baryomunsi has informed the journalists that government has instituted a serious surveillance system of detecting variants of Covid-19 at the Entebbe International Airport to avoid the third wave and another level of the lockdown.
