Police have arrested the second suspected shooter in the assassination attempt of works and Transport Minister Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala which left his daughter Brendah Nantongo and driver Haruna Kayondo dead.

 

The suspect identified as Huzaifa Wampa alias Kanaabe, a 30 year old former member of the Bodaboda 2010 was allegedly transported by one Kamada Walusimbi alias Mudinka or Ogema to the scene of crime.

 

This follows the discovery of the first suspected assassin identified as Hussein Lubwama alias Christopher Kinene alias Master who was shot dead two weeks ago by security operatives on allegations that he was resisting arrest.

Three other suspects are said to have been killed by security personnel.

 

Addressing the media on behalf of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, the Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says that Kanaabe was tracked down and arrested yesterday from his hide-out in Kikomeko village near Kalule Trading Center, Nakatonya Parish, Nyimbwa Sub County in Luwero district.

 

Enanga adds that an immediate thorough search was conducted at the suspect’s known premises and the motorcycle Bajaj Boxer red in color registration number UEO 375D that was used during the attack was recovered.

 

Last week Walusimbi was charged alongside four others; Muhammad Kagugube alias Musiramu/Mugisha/Mbavu-moja, a boda boda rider and a resident of Kikaaya zone in Kawempe division, Siriman Ayuub Kisambira alias Mukwasi Koja, a resident of Kabaganda village in Kasangati town council, Abdulaziz Ramathan Dunku, a tailor/car seats repairer, resident of Matugga and Habib Marjan, a religious teacher.

 

According to Lokech, the suspects have also been linked to the murder of Maj Muhammad Kiggundu and his bodyguard Sgt Stephen Mukasa on November 26, at Masanafu trading centre in Lubaga division, and the killing of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi alongside his bodyguard Cpl Kenneth Erau and driver Cpl Godfrey Mambewa on March 17, 2017.

They are also linked to the shooting to death of SPC Hussein Mubiru and SPC Moses Karungi on September 18, 2017, at Kalerwe market, the robbery at cheap general hardware in Nansana where four people Frank Anania, Amim Bugembe, Jummy Atukuru and Frank Abaho were killed on May 29, 2019.
