Government has assured the public that there are no plans of closing schools due to too much heat that is being experienced in various parts of the country.

This follows South Sudan’s indefinite closure of all schools as a result of heat waves over the past few days with high temperatures during day and night that range between 41 and 45 degrees Celsius.

According to the State Minister for Higher Education, Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, they are in close contact with the Uganda National Meteorological Authority and they have informed them that Uganda’s temperatures will not exceed 30 degrees Celsius thus advising Ugandans not to panic.

He therefore advised schools to ensure that they protect children while at school from activities that put their lives at risk and encouraged Ugandans to avoid deforestation and embrace tree planting as a measure of averting such harsh weather conditions which are partly a result of climate change.
