The Catholic Church’s Health Commission has encouraged health facilities to leverage technology in maximizing client-centered approaches as part of boosting quality health care services.

Rt. Rev. Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki, the Chairman of the Health Commission said that technology especially digital healthcare platforms reduce costs and save time for both patients and providers by eliminating unnecessary visits, tests and paperwork.

He said this as he delivered his keynote address at this year’s Annual Health Assembly organized by the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) at the Sharing Youth Center Nsambya on Tuesday.

Muhiirwa who is also the Bishop of Fort Portal Diocese says that technology also improves health outcomes and patient satisfaction by providing personalized and evidence-based care.

According to him, digital healthcare platforms can increase access and equity in healthcare by reaching underserved populations like in rural areas, low-income groups and people with disabilities.

Meanwhile, the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau (UCMB) Executive Secretary, Dr. Sam Orach tasked all the health facilities under their supervision to ensure annual reports presented this year cover Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si.

The two days Assembly that started with the holy mass was attended by  Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo, the Vice Chairperson of the Health Commission and also the Bishop of Hoima Diocese as well the Secretary General of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, Msgr. John Baptist Kauta among other priests and medical superintendents from the 305 health facilities under the Catholic Church.
