The Uganda Police Force has refuted claims that the third highest ranking judicial officer, the Principal Judge Dr Flavian Zeija was over the weekend escaped attempted assassination.

Addressing the media at their headquarters in Naguru today, the Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga Dr. Zeija’s attack was as a result of devices planted under the road guardrail at a remote area in Kalandezi village along the Kampala – Masaka highway.

In a statement dated Sunday April 24, 2022, Jamson Karemani, the judiciary PRO said that gunmen shot at the principle judge’s convoy on Saturday evening, at around 7:00pm un his return to Kampala.

But Enanga says that Dr Zeija’s vehicle passed through the Improvised Explosive Device –IED consisted of a variety of components which was detonated by yet unknown criminals.

He says that after a thorough assessment conducted at the scene of crime by a combination of security experts from the Forensic department, Criminal Intelligence Directorate –CID, Internal Security Organization –ISO, Counter Terrorism, Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence –CIM and Operations, it was established that it wasn’t a gun attack but a detonated explosive that hit his vehicle though none was affected.

He says the device could have been planted by yet unknown suspects who monitored the vehicles passing and then detonated it with a remote at around 7:30pm at Kalandaze village, Buwama parish in Mpigi district.

Enanga says that this now becomes the second time with such an incident happening to motorists after a businessman identified as Alex Musaasira while with his wife in vehicle registration number UBJ 399A faced the same incident at Kyengoma LC1, Nkoni Parish in Lwengo district on April 3rd, 2022.
