Uganda Episcopal Conference -UEC has released the final funeral program for the peaceful sending off of His Grace Denis Lote Kiwanuka, the Emeritus Archbishop of Tororo.
According to the program released on Monday afternoon signed by the UEC Secretary General Msgr. John Baptist Kauta, there will be a requiem mass on Tuesday April 26th at 2pm at Lubaga Cathedral in Kampala thereafter the body will be transported to Tororo.
On Wednesday April 26, 2022 the funeral entourage will leave Kampala to Pallisa Catholic Parish and on the same day at noon, a requiem mass will be conducted at the parish and later at 3pm the funeral entourage will leave Pallisa to Tororo where they are expected to arrive at 5pm at the Uganda Martyrs Cathedral – Nyangole, Archdiocese of Tororo.
The burial ceremony will be conducted on Thursday April 28th, starting with a Christian Funeral Mass and interment at 11am at Nyagole Cathedral – Archdiocese of Tororo.
Archbishop Denis Kiwanuka Lote passed on Sunday morning of April 24th at Nsambya Hospital where he has for the last two weeks been battling undisclosed illness.
The retired prelate served as Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tororo, from June 27, 2007 until January 2, 2014 when he retired and was succeeded by now Archbishop Dr. Emmanuel Obbo.
Archbishop Kiwanuka Lote was born on March 25, 1938 in Kadumure Village, in present-day Pallisa District, in the Eastern Region of Uganda and was ordained a priest on December 19, 1965.
He was appointed a Bishop of the Diocese of Kotido from May 20, 1991 until June 27, 2007 and On June 27, 2007, Lote was appointed Archbishop of Tororo and was installed on September 14, 2007 where he served for 7years until 2014 when he retired at the age of 75 years and 9 months as prescribed by the Canon law.
He died at the age of 84 years old and he is remembered as a strong advocate of advance planning, education and preservation of the environment.
