The serving President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been dully nominated by the Electoral Commission as a candidate for the National Resistance Movement contesting for the position of president for the coming five year term 2021/26.

This will be his 6th time standing as a president since 1996 elections under the movement system. This time round Museveni is contesting with 9 other members who have been verified and cleared by the EC among the big ones are; General Henry Tumukunde an independent, General Mugisha Muntu for the Alliance for National Transformation and the Artiste Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform and a little known only lady Nancy Kalembe an independent.

Shortly after his nomination Museveni has warned Ugandans against joking with Covid-19 it’s a killer disease and no one should try to abuse the guidelines aimed at controlling the spread of the pandemic. Uganda has so far confirmed a total of 11, 767 coronavirus cases with 106 deaths and 7,461 recoveries.

He has also warned those whom he says are planning to disrupt the peace of Ugandans with the support from foreign groups that they are day dreaming.

Earlier on The EC chairman Justice Simon Byabakama the presiding chairman for the 2 day nomination exercise said 10 candidates are the only ones so far shortlisted out of a total of 87 who picked nomination forms.

He reminded the candidates to keenly take note of the compliance guidelines for smooth nomination exercise but the sitting president is reserved the right to use his facilities.

Among the requirements for the presidential aspirants; one must be a citizen of Uganda with a National ID, of 18 years of age, with at least Advanced level of certificate Education, 100 signatures from 98 districts and pay UGX 20 million.

By exactly 9.30am President Museveni had arrived at Kyambogo University grounds where the nomination exercise is taking place.

President Museveni chose many of his seconders below 35 years of age and from different parts of the country.

He arrived at Kyambogo University grounds in his presidential convoy together with his wife Janet Kataha Museveni while the rest of his counterparts the Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, NRM Vice chairman National Moses Kigongo, NRM Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba and the Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi were in a yellow bus.

On arrival they first washed hands one of the SOPs required to control the spread of Coronavirus

In the Evening he will be heading to Munyonyo to launch his campaigning manifesto.

Most roads joining to Jinja high way have been jammed due to traffic diversion and Business operators in busy Banda area along Jinja road have adhered to Police directives not to operate during the presidential nomination period.
