Youth leaders from different political parties under their umbrella Inter Party Youth Platform have condemned the Makerere University administration for barring two Guild Presidential candidates from contesting in today’s elections.

The leaders say that this is not just denying the students their freedom of association and expression, but also an abuse of the youth and a deliberate move to oppress them as far as matters concerning political freedom is concerned.

The two who were disqualified are NUP’s flag bearer Margaret Nattabi and independent candidate Suleiman Namwoza for allegedly holding a public debate.

Addressing the media today at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, Barbara Nyeko, a member of the NRM National Youth League wondered why a system which has given Uganda and the region leadership for years is now being suffocated.

Meanwhile, Nelson Agaba, a National Youth League Coordinator from the Alliance for National Transformation Party has condemned the actions of Makerere University administration adding that the new policies are an indication that democracy in this country is under attack.
