The Uganda Police have strongly warned the public against using the office of the State House Anti corruption unit headed by Col. Edith Nakalema to stop them from doing their work of enforcing law and order.

Speaking at the Uganda Media Center today, police spokesperson Fred Enanga said some people found flouting the law have resorted to threatening their officers with reporting them to Nakalema’s office for corruption and misbehaving.

Enanga’s comments follow an incident in Matugga in Wakiso district where a volunteer with the ministry of health attached to the HIV/Aids section called Quarish Mubiru was found teaching a young lady how to drive in a vehicle with a ministry sticker.

The police in the area impounded the vehicle and took it to Kawempe police station. However, Mubiru went on to accuse the officers of trying to obstruct him from doing his work of distributing ARV drugs to Aids patients in the area.

While addressing the country last week, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ordered Col. Edith Nakalema to arrest any errant security officer who veers off the Standard Operating procedures of the forces by assaulting civilians or illegally entering in their homes in the guise of enforcing the COVID-19 orders such as the curfew.

Meanwhile, Enanga also used the address to thank Ugandans for abiding by the rules set out by the government to halt the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID -19). He said unless guided by the government, tomorrow marks the end of the 14 day lockdown and curfew that the president announced a fortnight ago.

In that regard, he said they have impounded 39 motorcycles in Kampala metropolitan areas for refusing to cease operations at 2pm. Enanga also enumerated a number of homicides across the country which include one in Rwampara district where two sons hacked their mother to death accusing her of wanting to sell the family land. Another incident was in Kapchora district where a woman identified as Kellen Chematai hacked her husband Tito Nwoko to death accusing him of infidelity. Whereas in Alebtong, a woman committed suicide having separated from her husband with whom she had an eight year old daughter.

In other incidents, police arrested one of its officers Henry Kayiza attached to the Criminal Investigation Department for flouting social distance rules when he held a drinking party at his home in Kinawattaka in Nakawa division. Police also arrested Adam Obeke, a payroll officer attached to KCCA for allegedly publishing fake news that Uganda had lost a person to COVID – 19.

Police is also holding 13 people in Iganga for attempting to attend an introduction ceremony against the orders of the president banning such functions. In Kitgum, two Russians and one Ugandan were equally arrested for traveling from Kampala using a car with forged number plates yet such travels were banned too.
