Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi ll is marking his 65 birthday since he was born in 1955 April 13, 2020 to the late Mutesa II of Buganda and Nabakyala Sarah Nalule as his parents.

 

Unlike the usual celebrations in which the Kingdom throws a party to his subjects, this time round it has not been possible due to the lockdown to control the spread of Coronavirus Pandemic that even led to cancelation of Special prayers that had been planned to take place at Lubaga Cathedral today.

 

However in a special message through the Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga at Bulange Mengo, Kabaka Mutebi has recognized 5 people for their distinguished services to the kingdom and the country at a large. They will receive an award dubbed ” Ejjinja ery’omuwendo” at a special function that will be communicated.

 

They are; the former DP President General Paul Kawanga Ssemwogere ,Sheikh Hussein Rajab Kakooza , Rev.Samuel Kasujja, A 93years old journalist John Sserwanga Zirakuze and Professor Josephine Nambooze Kiggundu.

 

Paul Kawanga Ssemwogerere has been recognized for being a veteran politician and a leader at all times, a gentleman and a man who chaired the preparatory meetings of  Kabaka’s coronation at Naggalabi in 1993.

 

Sheik Hussein Rajab Kakooza has been recognized for being a unifier first of the Muslims faith and other faiths.

 

Rev.Samuel Kasujja has been recognized for baptizing the Kabaka of Buganda in Gomba County and for taking care of the royal family.

 

John Johns Zirakuze has been recognised for his exceptional journalistic services to the Kingdom up to the restoration of the kingdom of Buganda, while Professor Josephine Nambooze Kiggundu the first woman medical doctor in Uganda and East Africa has served the kingdom voluntarily since the coronation in 1993 and has trained a number of doctors.

 

Katikiro Mayiga also applauded the Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga and all other religious leaders for praying for the Kabaka and appealed to the people of Buganda to put on their birthday run kits today to commemorate the Kabaka’s birthday as a sign of solidarity reminding all that the proceeds will go towards the fight against HIV/AIDS in Uganda.
