Herbert Mutumba one of the three accused in the murder of former Ntoroko District National Resistance Movement chairperson, Japheth Kabagambe Ahebwa has accused the arresting officer of taking his 45 million shillings he was found with at the time of arrest.

Tumusiime Julius a senior police officer, a tracker and arresting officer at Mbarara central police station while on stand today as a second prosecution witness in this case, revealed to court that at the time of arrest he never found the accused with anything not even money that could have pinned them on this case and the only thing implicating them is their verbal confession.

This came as a surprise to the accused where Mutumba insisted that Julius had taken his money upon arrest and had promised to bring this money in court as an exhibit something Julius was again denying before court saying for him he only arrested but never searched anything or took anything.

Mutumba a businessman is accused together with Barnabas Alleluya, a businessman/native doctor and Deus Ahimbisibwe a driver.

The trio are facing three charges of kidnap, murder and aggravated robbery where prosecution alleges that the accused together with others still at large while in Fort portal tourism city at around 4 pm on September 2, 2021, kidnapped Japheth Kabagambe Ahebwa with intentions of murdering him. Kabagambe who was last seen at one of the ATMs in Fort Portal was found dead two days later in a swamp in Ibanda district.

According to the prosecution, the suspects also robbed Kabagambe of Shillings 400,000/= either before or after murdering him.
