The Lord Mayor of Kampala Capital City Erias Lukwago has protested the move of allocating Nakivubo settlement primary school to hawkers for use during the festive season.

This follows a communication from the Mayor Central division Salim Uhuru that his council resolved to allocate the school to hawkers to conduct business for two months that involves the festive season.

However, in the top leadership consultative meeting held at city hall in Kampala on Monday, Lukwago said that the move has hidden a gender of taking the school land.

He says that in their previous term of office, they gazetted three roads for hawkers including Ssebaana Kizito road, Kafumbe Mukasa road and Allen road but unfortunately the Kampala Capital City Authority -KCCA technical wing failed to implement their decision.

The Workers representative at city hall Bismark Ssempijja backed Lukwago’s protest saying there might be a hidden a gender because even the place at Nakivubo settlement is too small to accommodate the number of hawkers in the city thus proposing to government to temporarily give them Railway grounds for safety and easy accessibility of the customers.

However, some of the hawkers have mixed reactions on Nakivubo Settlement Primary School while others oppose Kalerwe area.

The matter has now been set to the authority council to find an everlasting solution on allocating Nakivubo settlement primary school to hawkers.
