Police have identified the owner of the boat that capsized on Lake Victoria and left 3 people dead.

The boat was on its way to Nakiwogo landing site from Bussi Island in Wakiso District on Tuesday carrying 16 people.

According to the Police, on 12th March 2023 an engine boat belonging to Steven Muragye being driven by Emmanuel Nsubuga left Basaabala landing site at around 1am heading to Nakiwogo.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says that when the boat reached the areas of Kakyanga it was intercepted with strong winds and waves which affected its movement hence capsizing.

He says the boat was loaded with luggage of about 200 bunches of matooke, 7 sacks of cassava and bags and 17 passengers whom 16 are adults and one juvenile.

Onyango says the deceased are identified as Nalongo Naluswa, Lucky and Grace were retrieved and taken over by the family members who declined the option of postmortem examination.

Meanwhile, the particulars of survivors are; Felix Asimwe, Leticia Akatukwasa, Justin Namata, John Isingoma, Pius Twinamatsiko, Robert Tumusiime, Celestine Maniriho, Simeon Tumuhimbise, Joel Tinkansimire, Aisha Namuyomba and Frank Galiwango.

The missing victims are; Emmanuel Nsubuga, the boat driver, Francis Mundenkye and Mama Clare.
