Police have on Monday commenced an operation against buses without the driver’s badge and route chats.

This follows a directive issued by the Police Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety last week to bus owners to process badges for their drivers from the Ministry of Works and Transport in one week and also ensures they get rout chats for their buses in order to operate on the roads.

Addressing the media on Monday at Naguru, the Traffic Police Spokesperson Faridah Nampiima says that they expect all buses on the roads to have displayed photos of the driver, a copy of the badge and the route chats.

She says that the operation will easily help the traffic police trace the movement of buses, stop return journeys and stop drivers who shift from one company to another after causing crashes on the road.

Nampiima says that they are going to use checkpoints that exit Kampala like at Matugga, Buloba and Nsangi among others to impound these buses and arrest the driver’s without badges and route chats.

Meanwhile, about 56 people perished in the 217 road crashes that occurred in a week of 9th to 14ty of January 2023 across the country according to the Traffic Police.

Faridah Nampiima the Traffic Police Spokesperson says that at least 303 victims got involved in these crashes with 247 people sustained serious injuries.
