Police are trying to locate the driver that allegedly knocked and injured four pilgrims at Kamuli roundabout along the Jinja –Iganga highway over the weekend.

 

The incident is reported to have occurred on 27th of May, 2023 at Mailo Mbiri along Jinja –Iganga highway where a speeding Isuzu Forward truck registration number UBE168J slipped off from the road and knocked the pilgrims who were trekking from Bugiri heading to Jinja.

 

Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson says that the preliminary information indicates that the driver is identified as Yusuf Magwa (24) a resident of Bugenge division in Jinja North was driving recklessly and after the accident he continued and hid the truck in Bugiri division where it was found and towed.

 

He says that Magwa drove off the road in avoidance of knocking a taxi he was following at a high speed but ended up knocking and injuring four pilgrims including Jennifer Nambuya 49, Winfred Taka, and Fred Elebu (22) and John Bosco Balore all from Bugiri.

 

Meanwhile, police have registered safe arrivals of pilgrims from the districts of Kasese, Kyenjojo, Kanungu, Isingiro, Fort Portal, Ntungamo, Mubende, and Bushenyi and they have continued to escort pilgrims from Kakamega parish in Kenya under the leadership of Fr. Patrick Murunga as Enanga explains.
