The Police Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has registered an increase in the number of road crashes in the year 2023.

 

According to last year’s Annual Crime Report released today at Police headquarters Naguru in Kampala, the traffic Directorate recorded 23,608 crashes in 2023.

 

Of these, 4179 crashes were fatal, 12,487 were serious and 6,942 were minors.

 

This represents an increase of 15 percent compared to 8,860 crashes registered in the year 2022.

 

Lawrence Nuwabiine, the Director Traffic and Road Safety says that the accidents occurred between 6pm and 8pm with the vulnerable being pedestrians.

 

He says that the age bracket of the lives cut short was below the productive years of 35.
