The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martins Okoth Ochola has highlighted three critical areas that the force should address in order to have a better future policing in the country.

According to Ochola, among the areas that critically need to be addressed are, conducting specialized training, carrying out more recruitment to match with the police population ratio and also to improve the general welfare of the personnel.

He said this while addressing the leadership of all security agencies and stakeholders who had gathered to witness the releasing of the 2023 Police Annual Crime Report at Naguru today.

He further noted that the 1.5 percent decrease of complaints registered in 2023 compared to 2022 was due to the strategic partnership with the community and sister security agencies.

Ochola however expressed his happiness for having registered a total of 228,074 cases in 2023 compared to 231653 in 2022.

The Police Director of Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) Tom Magambo noted that among the cases registered in 2023, 84,907 were produced in court, 94,533 are still under investigations, and 48,632 were not proceeded with while the 27,125 are convictions.

Others, 843 were acquitted, 1096 were dismissed, 46,843 are pending in court and 123,590 are still in the system between the police and the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
