Police have blocked the 15th anniversary celebrations of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party in Rukiga and Rubanda districts.

The FDC party leadership had scheduled to hold the celebrations at Nyeikunama primary school playground in Muhanga town council in Rukiga district and Murore playground in Rubanda town council in Rubanda district.

The Rukungiri municipality members of parliament, who also doubles as the FDC party president for Western Region, Roland Mugume Kaginda had been scheduled to preside over the celebrations in Rukiga district while Ingrid Turinawe would preside in Rubanda district.

However, anti-riot police sealed off all the venues to stop the FDC party members from accessing them.

In Rukiga district, Kaginda arrived at the venue at around 10:00AM but was blocked by police under the command of Aggrey Okumu, the Rukiga District Police Commander.

Okumu said he couldn’t allow the celebrations to proceed because he received notification about the event on Sunday night.
