The Government has been asked to update parliament on the upcoming National Housing and Population Census.

This is after the Nakaseke Central Member of Parliament Allan Mayanja raised a procedural matter informing parliament that even though it’s just a few days to the national census this week on Friday 10th, many Ugandans are still not aware of the exercise which might disrupt the activity.

He also alluded that even the over 100 questions going to be asked to Ugandans are tasking and tiresome.

Mayanja says that the census is an important activity for parliament as it will help them during the budget period which has prompted the Speaker Anita Among to ask the Government to update the country on the exercise.

Meanwhile, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has confirmed that they have designed different questionnaires for homeless people and other special groups ahead of the forthcoming National Population and Housing Census.

While addressing the media at Naguru police headquarters on Monday morning, James Muwonge, the Director Methodology and Statistics at UBOS says that there are separate questions for street children, men and women, night shift workers and the ghetto people.

The National Population and Housing Census will be conducted in 10 days starting on the 9th to 19th of May 2024 across the country.

Muwonge assures the public that their information will be kept confidential, appealing to people to stay at home on May 10th and answer the questions from the enumerators.

Dr. Albert Byamugisha, the Chairperson Board of Directors at UBOS emphasizes that the 120,000 tablets to be used to capture data in the exercise will be given out to Government agencies like NIRA, Electoral Commission, Parish Development Model, Local Government offices and the districts after the exercise.
