Parliament has been adjourned sine die after Government’s failure to present a report on the Local Council 1, Local Council 2 and Women Council elections.

This was after the Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka requested for deferment of the request made by MPs through the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, tasking Government to explain the plans of organizing and conducting the LC1, LC2 and Women Council elections after expiry of their tenure.

Last week the Minister of Local Government Raphael Magyezi had promised to table a report in Parliament this week on Tuesday which he failed prompting MPs to demand Government to explain its plans of organizing the LC elections.

The delays in conducting the LC elections have been occasioned by the absence of budget requirement amounting to Shs 56 billion to which Magyezi informed Parliament that he was to hold a stakeholders’ meeting with officers from the Ministry of Local Government, Election Commission, Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Prime Minister to find a solution before he reports back to Parliament.
