The Opposition in Parliament has put the Government to task to initiate measures to rescue and repatriate Ugandans said to be caught up in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma.

Addressing journalists at Parliament, the Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs Muwanda Nkunyingi said that over 450 Ugandans are trapped in Myanmar by different rebel groups.

Nkunyingi who is also the Kyadondo East MP says the majority of these went on promises of jobs, some as tourists and other for studies but unfortunately, they ended up recruited into rebel activities, prostitution and criminal acts like computer hacking.

Nkunyingi challenges the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to always issue advisory notices to Ugandans before they travel to any foreign country.

He has also vowed to present the matter in Parliament, demanding the Government to urgently engage in rescue missions for all Ugandans said to be held up in Myanmar, Egypt and other Arab countries.

Nkunyingi has also attributed the matter to the failure to appoint career diplomats and instead the appointing authority resorts to political failures and NRM royalists who are unprofessional in matters of foreign affairs.
