Members of Parliament have turned the heat on the Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa and asked him to apologize to the country for prematurely leaving the burial ceremony of the fallen Dokolo District Woman MP Cecilia Ogwal.

This dissatisfaction was raised by the Tororo Woman MP Sarah Opendi saying it was an embarrassment and disrespectful for the Deputy Speaker to excuse himself before the burial had ended yet all the other representatives from the other arms of Government stayed up to the end including the Vice President Jessica Alupo who represented President Museveni.

Opendi said that the Vice President informed the mourners that the Deputy Speaker had left to attend a wedding and later a function in his constituency which sounded demeaning to the stature of the late Ogwal whom they were sending off.

In reply, Tayebwa defended himself saying he had a fixed program which he had to fulfill and also promised to settle the matter with the Vice President.

However, Opendi’s statement of asking the deputy speaker to apologize angered MPs forcing her to withdraw the statement and later a motion to dispatch it from the records of Parliament was moved by the Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Semujju Nganda and was seconded by the whole house.

Ogwal died of a cancer-related illness from a hospital in India on January 18th at the age of 77.
